A pitot-static (air data) test set connects to an aircraft's pitot and static ports and generates controlled pressures so technicians can leak-check the plumbing and verify altimeters, airspeed/Mach indicators, vertical-speed indicators, air data computers and altitude reporting. Airlines and MROs use them on the hangar floor and flight line, especially for RVSM aircraft, where static accuracy is critical. Novatelia sources selected air-data test sets by RFQ for maintenance teams in Oman and on qualified projects across the GCC.

Frequently asked technical questions

What is a pitot-static test set used for?

It applies controlled pitot and static pressures to leak-check the system and verify altimeters, airspeed/Mach and vertical-speed indicators, air data computers and autopilot air-data inputs [2].

Why is RVSM testing more demanding?

RVSM airspace relies on tight altimetry accuracy, so the static channel of the test set must be very accurate; the Laversab 6300 states ±3 ft at sea level rising to ±18 ft at 50,000 ft [3].

How often must the static system be checked?

In the US, 14 CFR 91.411 requires testing within the preceding 24 calendar months for IFR operations in controlled airspace; follow your own authority and maintenance programme [1].

Can the test be run from the cockpit?

Yes on sets with a remote unit, such as the Model 6300 remote keypad/display or tablet control over Wi-Fi [3].

Is a pitot-static tester also needed for transponder tests?

The altitude-reporting correspondence test links both systems; AC 43-6D describes the practice [4].
