Aircraft Network & Data Bus Testing

Astronics Ballard OmniBusBox II avionics databus interface
Manufacturer product image (Astronics); source.

Avionics databus test equipment lets engineers and avionics shop technicians simulate, monitor, record and replay the digital buses that connect aircraft systems, such as ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553 and AFDX/ARINC 664P7 [1]. It is used on test benches for line-replaceable units, in integration labs and when troubleshooting intermittent data faults. Novatelia sources selected databus interfaces by RFQ for customers in Oman and qualified GCC projects.

Frequently asked technical questions

What is the difference between ARINC 429 and MIL-STD-1553?

ARINC 429 uses point-to-point channels at 12.5 or 100 kbit/s [2]; MIL-STD-1553B is a dual-redundant command/response bus controlled by a bus controller [3].

Can one interface test both buses?

Yes, mixed modules such as the ANET-MxAy combine up to two 1553 streams with up to 12 ARINC 429 channels [4].
