Aircraft RF & Antenna Testing

Aircraft RF and antenna testing checks the coaxial feeders, connectors and antennas of communication, navigation and surveillance systems. A cable and antenna analyzer measures return loss or VSWR, cable loss and distance-to-fault using frequency-domain reflectometry (FDR), so a technician can locate a damaged cable, a wet connector or a cracked antenna instead of swapping radios [1][2]. Novatelia sources selected RF test equipment by RFQ for operators in Oman and qualified GCC projects.

Frequently asked technical questions

Why test the antenna and cable instead of the radio?

Many RF faults sit in cables, connectors and antennas; FDR locates them at the source [1][2].

What is distance-to-fault?

A plot of reflections against distance along the line that shows where a fault is [8].
