Torque & Controlled Tightening

Torque and controlled-tightening tools are the torque wrenches, screwdrivers, multipliers and torque testers that aircraft technicians use to tighten fasteners to the values in the maintenance manual and to prove that each tool is still accurate. Airlines, MROs and component shops use them on engines, landing gear, structures and systems. Novatelia sources selected torque tools and testers by RFQ for hangars in Oman and qualified GCC projects.
Applications
- Engine, landing-gear and structural fastener tightening per maintenance manuals [1].
- Restricted-access fasteners using special adaptors or engineer-to-order fittings [1].
- Line-side confidence checks of torque wrenches before use [1].
Equipment types
- Click-type and professional torque wrenches (Norbar states ±3% of reading) [2].
- Torque testers and calibration instruments [1].
Technologies
- Single-direction mechanism with push-through square drive [1].
- Handles resistant to aviation hydraulic fluids [1].
How to select equipment
- Range: choose a wrench whose working range brackets the specified values.
- Drive and adaptor geometry: adaptors change effective length and must be compensated.
- Calibration evidence: ISO 6789-2 certificates [2].
Calibration and traceability
- ISO 6789-1 and 6789-2 define requirements and calibration for hand torque tools [2].
- Accredited (ISO/IEC 17025) calibration provides traceability [3].
Customer types
- Airlines
- MRO hangars
- Component and engine shops

Frequently asked technical questions
What calibration is required for aviation torque wrenches?
Calibration per ISO 6789-2 by a competent, preferably ISO/IEC 17025-accredited, laboratory at the interval set by your procedures [2][3].
What accuracy do aviation torque wrenches need?
ISO 6789 sets tolerance classes; Norbar states ±3% of reading for its professional range [2].
Why use a torque tester in the hangar?
A tester provides a confidence check at the point of use between calibrations [1].
Do adaptors affect torque?
Yes, extensions that change the effective length alter applied torque; compensate per the tool and manual.
Can Novatelia supply Norbar tools in Oman?
Novatelia supplies and sources selected solutions from this manufacturer subject to availability, OEM channel requirements and project qualification.
