WhatsApp Business App vs API

Communications

The WhatsApp Business app is an inbox on a phone for a person who replies by hand. The WhatsApp Business Platform, often called the API, lets a system the customer runs send approved templates and receive messages through a provider the customer contracts. Novatelia scopes that integration. It is not a Meta business-solution provider and not an official WhatsApp provider.

Key points

  • A phone app does not give a CRM a webhook.
  • Template approval stays with the platform.
  • The provider contract is the customer’s.

Definition

Use the app when one person or a small team answers from a handset. Use the platform when a named system must send or receive messages under the platform’s rules.

How it works

The app stores chats on the device and its linked clients. The platform requires a business account, a number, approved templates for outbound utility or marketing messages, and a webhook or inbox the customer’s system owns.

Architecture

  1. A number and a Meta business account the customer controls.
  2. Approved templates for the messages that will be sent.
  3. The customer’s system, connected through the provider they contract.

Use cases

  • A shop replies from a handset and does not need a system.
  • Order updates must leave an application, not a person’s phone.
  • A CRM should show the conversation beside the customer record.

Comparison

Business app
A person replies on a phone. No integration contract.
Platform / API
A system sends templates and receives events, through a provider the customer contracts.

Selection guidance

  • If a person can answer every chat, the app may be enough.
  • If a system must send the message, scope the platform page.
  • Do not describe Novatelia as the WhatsApp provider.

Questions

Can the app and the API share one number?

The platform’s current rules decide whether a number can move. This site does not promise that a handset number becomes an API number. The communications page treats that move as a provider and platform question.

Who approves the message text?

The platform approves templates. Novatelia can help prepare the integration and the message design. Approval is not a Novatelia decision, and no delivery rate is published.
