EDR is the activity record on computers. XDR is a vendor’s name for correlating that record with other products, usually in the same suite, such as email or identity telemetry that the suite actually receives. Definition
Treat XDR as a correlation claim that must name its sources. If the sources are only computers, the requirement is EDR. If the sources include other suite products, write those products down.
How it works
The suite receives telemetry from its own agents and connectors. Correlation rules run on that set. A firewall or identity system outside the suite appears only when a connector and a license exist.

Is XDR a replacement for SIEM?
Only for the sources that suite can see. Logs from other vendors still need a place to go. The SIEM solution remains the cross-system record when the estate is mixed.
