Cloud
Cloud backup copies data to storage a provider operates. On-premises backup copies it to disks or tape the organization operates. Many designs keep both: a local copy for a fast restore and a second copy elsewhere for a site failure. Novatelia’s backup solution scopes that design. It does not publish a recovery-time or recovery-point figure.

Key points
- A second copy in the same room is not a site-failure copy.
- Restore testing belongs in the scope.
- The figure for how much data or time is lost is a written service, not a page.
Definition
The location of the copy is the distinction. The harder questions are what is backed up, how often, who can restore it, and whether a restore has been tried.
How it works
A job copies the agreed systems on an agreed schedule. One copy stays local if the design needs a quick file restore. Another copy leaves the site if the design needs to survive the room. A test restore is a separate, scheduled task.
Architecture
- The systems and data in scope.
- A local target, an off-site target, or both.
- A restore test and the person allowed to run it.
Use cases
- A file server needs a recent copy in the same office.
- A site failure must not be the only copy of the company data.
- A tenant’s mail is already the vendor’s service and still needs a backup decision the license does not include.
Comparison
- Cloud copy
- Leaves the building. Depends on the provider, the link, and the account.
- On-premises copy
- Stays on equipment the organization runs. Shares the site’s risks if it is the only copy.
Selection guidance
- Name the failure the copy is meant to survive.
- Do not accept a design with one copy in the same failure domain.
- Put any recovery objective in a written service. This article does not set one.
Questions
Which is safer?
A copy that has been restored and that does not share the failure you are planning for. The media location alone is not a safety claim, and no durability percentage is published.
Does Microsoft 365 include this?
A tenant is not automatically a backup of itself. The backup solution is where that gap is scoped. No retention promise is printed here.

Describe the requirement
An RFQ saves a browser draft. It does not publish a price or issue a quotation reference.
