Condition Monitoring

Condition monitoring in an aviation maintenance base means checking the rotating machinery that the hangar depends on: air compressors, hydraulic and fuel pumps, fans, motors and gearboxes in ground support and facility equipment. A vibration tester identifies developing faults before they stop the machine. The Fluke 810 diagnoses unbalance, looseness, misalignment and bearing failures on motors, fans, pumps, compressors, gearboxes and other machines from 200 to 12,000 rpm and reports a plain-text diagnosis with four severity levels and repair recommendations [1]. Aircraft engine vibration monitoring follows the engine manufacturer's manual and is not covered here.
Applications
- Route checks on hangar air compressors and pumps [1].
- Troubleshooting a noisy GSE motor or gearbox [1].
- Before-and-after checks around planned maintenance [1].
Equipment types
- Diagnostic vibration testers with on-board fault rules, e.g. Fluke 810 [1].
- Triaxial accelerometers and laser tachometers supplied with the tester [1].
How to select equipment
- Machine types and speed range [1].
- Whether technicians need on-board diagnosis or raw spectra for an analyst [1].
- Training for the team; the manufacturer offers training material [1].
Customer types
- MRO facilities teams
- GSE workshops
- Airport engineering departments

For condition monitoring, Novatelia handles sourcing, quotation and delivery coordination from Muscat for Oman customers and on a project basis for other GCC countries; see Aviation supply in Oman. Novatelia does not claim local OEM service centres or civil aviation authority approvals.
Frequently asked technical questions
Can the Fluke 810 test aircraft engines?
No claim is made for that; Fluke lists industrial machines such as motors, pumps, compressors and gearboxes [1].
What faults does it detect?
Unbalance, looseness, misalignment and bearing failures, with severity from slight to extreme [1].
