Composite Repair Equipment

Heatcon HCS9200B portable dual-zone hot bonder for composite repair
Manufacturer product image (Heatcon Composite Systems); source.

Composite repair equipment applies controlled heat and vacuum to cure resins, prepregs and adhesives in a repair patch on or off the aircraft, without an autoclave. A portable hot bonder runs a programmed cure cycle on heat blankets, monitors thermocouples and vacuum, and records the cure for the repair file [1][2]. Repairs themselves must follow approved repair data; FAA AC 43-214A gives guidance on procedures and facilities for composite and bonded repairs [3]. Novatelia sources selected hot bonders by RFQ for customers in Oman and qualified GCC projects.

Frequently asked technical questions

Does a hot bonder make a repair approved?

No. The repair must follow approved repair data; the hot bonder only controls and records the cure [3].

Can repairs be done on a fuelled aircraft?

Only with equipment designed for that environment, such as Heatcon flightline systems for Class I, Division II areas [1].
